Art Forgery and Pakistani Art - British Council
The Art Forgery and Pakistani Art project, spearheaded by Faiz Foundation Trust in collaboration with the British Council, was a pioneering initiative aimed at addressing the growing issue of art forgery in Pakistan. Under the esteemed leadership of Ms. Salima Hashmi, the project sought to raise awareness about the impact of art forgery on the country's artistic heritage while equipping artists, collectors, and art institutions with the knowledge to identify and combat fraudulent artworks. This initiative involved panel discussions, expert-led workshops, and interactive sessions featuring renowned artists, art historians, legal experts, and curators who delved into the complexities of authentication, provenance, and intellectual property rights in the art world. The project also explored the evolution of Pakistani art, tracing its historical roots and the challenges faced by contemporary artists in maintaining the authenticity of their work. Additionally, documented case studies and research-based presentations provided valuable insights into the techniques used by forgers and the legal frameworks available to counter such practices. By fostering dialogue between key stakeholders in the art industry, the project not only highlighted the need for stringent measures against forgery but also reinforced the importance of preserving Pakistan’s artistic legacy with integrity and authenticity. Through this initiative, Faiz Foundation Trust took a significant step toward safeguarding the credibility of Pakistani art and ensuring that future generations of artists and collectors could thrive in a more transparent and ethical creative landscape.
